Jeff Beck passed away on January 10, 2022 and here is a look at some of my work from 1972 to 2022 of Jeff. RIP my friend.
January 24, 2023
My music photography career began in 1971 and I retired as planned at the end of 2022. I didn't realize that my last show would be with my favorite musician, Jeff Beck, this past October 23rd. Fitting, but a sad way to end a photo career. I will continue with Indy Car and IMSA photography along with other special projects.
If you know me at all, you know my favorite musician and the world's best guitarist is musician Jeff Beck. Jeff passed away quickly from bacterial meningitis on January 10th in England. Born in 1944 he was 78 years old. I was just gutted and didn't really sleep the night I found out. Still have a hard time knowing he has left us.
I first photographed Jeff Beck on May 10, 1972 at the Riverside Theater with the Siegal Schwall Band as the opening act. I was working for the Bugle American newspaper at that time. The Seigal Schwall band members were friends, so after the show I went backstage and got to meet Jeff.
Wish I would have taken some backstage photos that night but I've always respected the backstage area for photo access unless we did an interview for what ever publication or record company I was working for then.
That night my life was changed watching Jeff Beck play guitar. He made it look so easy! He was the best ever guitarist or the G.O.A.T. as some people like to say.
Through the year's I've photographed Jeff Beck 5 times. I believe I met him 3 times and he was always so nice, shy and just a normal guy.
The Riverside Theater-Milwaukee, Wisconsin--May 10, 1972
Turner Hall-Milwaukee, Wisconsin--April 18, 2009
Milwaukee's Summerfest--June 25, 2010
The Riverside Theater-Milwaukee, Wisconsin--May 22, 2015
The Chicago Theater--October 23, 2022
I also remember just going to a few of his shows to see him play. Felt naked without a camera of course! One of those times was when he was playing with guitarist John McLauglin. I got to talk to both of them that night. They are both great guitar players.
Enjoy a few photos of the master from the shows listed above and see if you can figure out which photos go with what show?
I also added the set list from the Chicago show this past October with Johnny Depp. Notice the 2 arrows on the left side of the song/set list. Those are the only songs I was allowed to photograph- Jeff's first song and then the 12th when Johnny Depp came out for a 45 second song which he spent most of the time exchanging phone or room numbers with a girl in the front row! Because of where I was standing, I only got to really see Jeff and bass player Rhonda Smith and not the rest of the band. From stage left I never even saw the drummer or keyboard player.
The politics and ridiculous rules for photographers are why I have ended my music photography journey...
Almost forgot!! If you haven't seen or bought the book BECK01 that I was a part of from Genesis publications please check it out! Photos of Jeff's cars and guitars. I have 3 photos in it and it is the best built book also! Comes in a pouch in a beautiful box with a License plate on the cover! Printed in Itay.
Thanks and RIP Jeff.

For a few months now, I have been working on the 2018 Rich Zimmermann Photography calendar and it's just about done!! It is a lot of work!
The 2018 calendar is going to be a Summerfest theme with it being 50 years old this year or last year depending on who you talk to.
Each month is the featured musician's birthday. That made it tough to dig through my files to find the Summerfest photo that went along with the birthday person.
The calendar this year is $40.00 including shipping in the U.S. Shutterfly is printing it on their nice, heavy board stock. This is frameable board stock for after the month is done!
The cover will be The Atlanta Rythm Section at Summerfest 1977
January-John McGlaughlin of the Mahavishnu Orchestra at Summerfest 1972
February-Melanie at Summerfest 1974
March-Charlie Pride at Summerfest in 1972
April-John Oates from Hall and Oates at Summerfest in 1977
May-Dusty Hill from Z Z Top at Summerfest/Harley Fest in 2008
June-Jeff Beck at Summerfest in 2010
July-Arlo Guthrie at Summerfest in 1972
August-Tom Johnston of the Doobie Brothers at Summerfest in 1973
September-Jerry Lee Lewis at Summerfest in 1972
October-Steve Miller at Summerfest in 1977
November-Joe Walsh at Summerfest in 1973
December-Eric Bloom from Blue Oyster Cult at Summerfest in 2008
The only thing I have to do is figure out which Jerry Lee Lewis photo to use! There are two shown here and I'm looking for suggestions.
Please let me know if you would like to order one of my calendars as I'm going to try to do just one printing this year.
Check it out and let me know what you think and if you would like one.
Thanks,
Rich Zimmermann

In April of 2016, the process of three of my photos going into Jeff Beck's book, BECK01, began.
I actually got a few dollars for my photography and a signed copy of the book!!!
The book is something to see. I am sharing it with you all this week. It is put out by Genesis Publications in England and printed in Italy.
The publication is signed by Jeff and limited to 2,000 copies and I have number X which is very cool!
It comes in a box, of course. You open the box and find a pouch that contains another box that is beautiful! Open up that second box and you pull up a ribbon that pulls the book out.
The book probably weighs ten pounds and the pages are very thick.
Pages 170 and 171 have two of my photographs from the Riverside Theater on May 10, 1972. They say March 19, 1972 in England, but it's not! Page 242 has my photo (bottom right) of Jeff with Vinnie Colaiuta on drums at Turner Hall in 2009.
Very honored to be in this book! Half of it is about his love of cars. He works on some beautiful old cars as you can see here. Yes, he actually works on them from welding to engine repair and more.
Jeff's birthday is June 24, 1944 and that explains the DMV California sticker on the back cover from 1944. So this is Jeff Beck week here! Happy birthday buddy!!
Enjoy and have a great week. Time to pack up the camera gear for Indy cars at Road America next weekend!!
Thanks,
Rich Zimmermann

It finally feels like winter here in Wisconsin! Thursday it was 70F and Friday was warm in the morning but then it changed quickly. Saturday we woke up to snow flurries and a bit of snow on the ground.
Winter is coming and so are the Rich Zimmermann Photography 2017 8 X 11 Rock'n Roll Calendars!!!!!!
For 2017's calendar I went with the birthdays of musicians to pick out each months photo like last year.
The cover is Frank Beard of Z Z Top and his amazing drum kit. Again David Bowie is our January pick because we have so many Bowie lovers, including myself!!
February-Don Everly of the Everly Brothers
March-Rory Gallager
April-Peter Frampton
May-Mick Ronson-From his Ian Hunter tour
June-Jeff Beck-From 1972!!
July-Roger McGuinn of The Byrds
August-Madonna
September-Roger Waters-Pink Floyd
October-Elvin Bishop
November-Joe Walsh
December-Jim Messina-Loggins and Messina 1973
Attached are the photos for a preview for you. No watermarks will be on the calendar prints of course.
I think you will all love it for yourself or for a Christmas gift for someone!
They are $30.00 each and $6.00 for shipping. Again, they are printed by Shutterfly who prints on a heavy stock that makes the prints suitable for framing when the month is over. They really do an awesome job I think and everyone loves them based on the comments I received about the 2016 calendar.
Email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to place your order and we can get you a calendar before Christmas no problem.

If you have followed my blogs and photos, you know that I like what Jeff Beck can do on a guitar.
On May 10, 1972, The Jeff Beck Group played at the Riverside Theater. They opened for The Siegal-Schwall Band.
I have shown photos of Jeff Beck and his band before, but always knew that I had more pictures somewhere. I did.
I have been scanning the Siegal Schwall band lately and was surprised to find my lost Jeff Beck photos! It's only five shots, but they are pretty good. In fact, I think that they are better than the other ones.
Enjoy a look at The Jeff Beck Group and the lost images from 1972!
Next week, the blog will be about the Siegal Schwall Band from that show.
Thanks,
Rich Zimmermann

With all the Jeff Beck blogging lately, I forgot to add this full group of photos from his show in 2009 at Turner Hall here in Milwaukee.
It was a great show with Davey Knowles, of Back Door Slam fame, as the opening act. Davey will be a blog coming soon.
Jeff always has a great band and this band was no exception. Tal Wilkenfeld, was on bass with Vinnie Colaiuta on drums.
Enjoy a few more of my favorite photos of Jeff Beck and have a great week!
Thanks,
Rich Zimmermann
